Thursday's Blog- Faith and Success

Ever so often when one is on a sports team there could be individuals on that team that do not try as hard as others or personally do not care as much. Or ever so often we come across people in our lives who fail where others succeed. Something that I found important to this book is success and how people view it. In the book Remember Why You Play, by David Thomas focuses on a certain football team called the Faith Christian Lions'. Each year the Lions' football team attends the semi-finals. Throughout the book, Faith comes into place regarding life changing games. Through these games each player has to think about what success means to them and if they are willing to success by winning each game especially the playoff and championship games. Each player has to be willing to give it their all and has to remember that their outlook and the way they define success, opportunity, and work plays a large role in determining their outcome. If I was the coach of the Lions' football team, I would give them this print out of 7 reasons why some people fail where others succeed and I would make them reread it each game day. (Found this website online) I believe it is very useful and goes a lot with the book and how success is played. Personally I think it could be very motivational.

7 reasons why some people fail where others succeed

1. They define success wrong
There are some people who believe success is won, natural, or earned. People who believe success is won, think success is out of their control; it simply depends on a flip of the coin or certain circumstances. Those who believe success is natural often feel the same as those who believe it is won- only different thing is that natural believers have a more pessimistic view of opportunity. Those who believe success is earned are people who understand that in order to succeed they have to earn it.

2. They define opportunity wrong
People who believe success is won see their opportunity as a possibility, but sometimes as trivial. People who believe success is natural see their opportunity as trivial (unimportant). People who believe success is earned see their opportunity as a probability, but sometimes as a possibility.

3. They define work wrong
Some people will point out that factory employees work harder than CEOs. This depends on your analysis of the word "work".
3 terms of work- physical labor, mental labor, or labor.

4. They defeat themselves
While there is a minority of people who actually choose to fail, the majority that fail simply make poor choice or have a poor outlook. Examples of poor choices- abusing drugs or alcohol/addiction, not getting an education, having poor work ethic, having a child too young or out of wedlock, immaturity/ laziness, borrowing too much money. Of course, there are also those people who can not control these certain things. The way you make your life is how it is going to be.

5. They think failure is final
Those who don't achieve success sometimes are likely to quit after their failure. Quitting, is a choice. The question is how hard or for how long are you willing to fight? If you want to succeed where other people fail, you have to step right over failure and keep walking.

6. They're a victim of their circumstances
Everyone has issues, circumstance, road blocks, etc. It's all about how you deal with your circumstances and how hard you're willing to overcome them. You are in a free country nobody is preventing you from achieving except yourself.

7. They take no for an answer
The people who succeed are those who don't take no for an answer. They shrug off the pessimism, the choose better friends, they put up boundaries with their family, and they surround themselves with positive people and things.

Conclusion- Success is possible for anyone who is willing to achieve it. There are many who want to success, but there is a huge difference between wanting-to and willing-to. You have to be willing. Remember that your outlook and the way you define success, opportunity, and work play a large role in determining your outcome.
